1) God of War (2005)


Release date- March 22, 2005

The First ever God of War game set in a fictionalized Ancient Greece, follows the story of the main protagonist ,Kratos on his quest to kill Ares, the God of War, and free himself from the nightmares haunting his soul.

The game was released on March 22, 2005 ,developed by Santa Monica Studio while published by Sony Computer Entertainment especially for PlayStation 2.

Players control Kratos from a fixed third-person perspective, wielding the iconic Blades of Chaos to unleash devastating combos on enemies. As Kratos progresses, he gains new abilities and weapons, enhancing his combat prowess and unlocking access to hidden areas.

2) God of War: Limited edition (2005)


Release date- March 22, 2005

The God of War: Limited Edition was a special release of the original God of War game for the PlayStation 2. With the same story, it included bonus content that provided fans with additional insights into the making of the game and its development process.

It was released alongside the original God of War game on March 22, 2005.


This limited edition included Art Book, Behind-the-Scenes Footage, Documentary & Bonus Material.

3) God of War II (2007)


Release date- March 13, 2007

God of War II is the sequel to the original God of War game and continues the story of Kratos, the Spartan warrior seeking revenge against the gods of Olympus.

The game released on March 13, 2007. developed by Santa Monica Studio while published by Sony Computer Entertainment especially on PlayStation 2.

God of War II picks up where the first game left off, with Kratos now serving as the new God of War after killing Ares. However, his thirst for revenge is not quenched, and he sets his sights on Zeus, the ruler of the gods, who betrays him and strips him of his powers.

4) God of War II: Special Edition (2007)


Release date- March 13, 2007

The God of War II: Special Edition was a special release of the game that offered additional content and bonuses for fans and collectors.

The game was released alongside the standard edition of the game on March 13, 2007,exclusively for the PlayStation 2 platform, developed by Santa Monica Studio.

The Special Edition include Bonus Disc, Exclusive In-Game Content, Collector's Packaging, Art Booklet and special merchandise.

5) God of War: Betrayal (2007)


Release date- June 20, 2007

God of War: Betrayal is a mobile game developed by Java ground and published by Sony Pictures Entertainment while released on June 20 ,2007.

Set between the events of the original "God of War" and "God of War II," the game follows Kratos as he seeks revenge against the gods of Olympus. Betrayed by Zeus and stripped of his godly powers, Kratos embarks on a quest to uncover the truth behind his betrayal and take vengeance on those who have wronged him.

God of War: Betrayal features side-scrolling action gameplay reminiscent of classic platformers. Players control Kratos as he battles enemies, solves puzzles, and navigates through levels inspired by Greek mythology.

6) God of War: Chains of Olympus (2008)


Release date- March 4, 2008

God of War: Chains of Olympus is a prequel to the original "God of War" game, developed by Ready at Dawn and Santa Monica Studio while released exclusively for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld on March 4, 2008.

The game is set before the events of the first "God of War" game following the journey Kratos, the Spartan warrior, on a quest to rescue the sun god Helios and thwart the machinations of the goddess Persephone, who seeks to destroy the world and bring about the reign of the Titans.

As designed exclusively for PSP, the game graphics and controls were specially set according to the system's power and performance. This made users to experience the trilogy of Epic God of War series in their hands.


The first step in the handheld platform made it to achieve several awards, including the BAFTA Award for Best Handheld Game, and is considered one of the standout titles on the PSP.

7) God of War Collection (2009)


Release date- November 17, 2009

The God of War Collection is a compilation of the first two mainline God of War games, "God of War" and "God of War II," developed by Bluepoint Games and Santa Monica Studio While published by Sony Computer Entertainment. The game was released for the PlayStation 3 console on November 17, 2009.

The game brought many enhancements in the originals games series. Some of them are:-

• High-Definition Graphics: Both games were remastered in high definition (HD), allowing players to experience the epic adventures of Kratos in stunning detail on the PlayStation 3.

60 Frames Per Second: The collection targeted a smooth 60 frames per second frame rate, enhancing the fluidity of gameplay and improving overall responsiveness.

• Trophies: The PlayStation 3 version of the collection introduced trophy support, allowing players to earn trophies for completing various in-game challenges and achievements.

8) God of War III (2010)


Release date- March 16, 2010

The further continuation of God of War series developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment while released on March 16, 2010 exclusively for Play Station 3.


Set after the events of God of War II, with Kratos leading the Titans in an assault on Mount Olympus to overthrow Zeus and the other Olympian gods. As Kratos battles his way through the divine realms, he encounters familiar faces from Greek mythology, including Poseidon, Hades, Hercules and Hermes, in his relentless pursuit of vengeance.

The God Of War III introduced fluid combat system and epic Boss Battles retaining its iconic brutal gameplay. The game also won several awards like BAFTA and IGN's Game of the year making it one of the best God of War game in the series.

DLCs

•Challenge of Exile: This DLC pack introduced a new gameplay mode called the Challenge of Exile. It consisted of a series of combat trials and puzzles for players to overcome, providing additional challenges beyond the main story.

• Phantom of Chaos Pack: This DLC pack included the Phantom of Chaos costume for Kratos, allowing players to customize his appearance in the game. The costume featured a black and red color scheme with intricate designs.

• Forgotten Warrior Pack: The Forgotten Warrior pack offered another costume option for Kratos, featuring a unique design inspired by ancient Greek armor and mythology. This costume provided players with a different aesthetic for their journey through God of War III.

• Apollo's Flame Pack: The Apollo's Flame pack included a fiery costume for Kratos, evoking the power of the Greek god Apollo. This costume featured flames and glowing effects, adding a dynamic visual element to Kratos' appearance.
• Dominus Pack: The Dominus pack offered another costume option for Kratos, featuring a regal and imposing design. This costume imbued Kratos with a sense of power and authority, reflecting his status as a formidable warrior.

9) God of War: Ghost Of Sparta (2010)

God of War: Ghost of Sparta is a cannon game in the God of War series, developed by Ready at Dawn and Santa Monica Studio while released exclusively for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld on November 2, 2010.
It serves as a prequel to the original God of War game, exploring the backstory of Kratos, the Spartan warrior. Set between the events of the original game and "God of War II," the game follows Kratos' quest to discover the truth about his past and confront his inner demons.

Along the way, he encounters familiar faces from his past, including his mother, Callisto, and his brother, Deimos, leading to a confrontation that will change the course of his destiny.

10) God of War: Origins Collection (2011)


Release date- September 13, 2011

The God of War: Origins Collection is a compilation of "God of War: Chains of Olympus" and "God of War: Ghost of Sparta" developed by Ready at Dawn and Santa Monica while published by Sony Computer Entertainment with initial release on September 13, 2011 for American continent.


The game featured the story of handheld released games with improves graphics and frame rates giving these standalone games a new arise. It let the players to experience the additional story of God of War, Kratos ,in a powerful console.

11) God of War Collection: Volume II (2011)


Release date- September 16, 2011

The God of War Collection Volume II is also an complete remastered version of "God of War: Chains of Olympus" and "God of War: Ghost of Sparta" developed by Ready at Dawn and Santa Monica while published by Sony Computer Entertainment with initial release on September 16, 2011 for European continent.

The game had improved graphics and iconic improvements in the gameplay compatible for Play Station 3 and apart from a different name than Origin's Collection, it had no difference in the story and visuals.

12) God of War: Saga (2012)


Release date- August 28, 2012

The God of War Saga is a comprehensive collection of the mainline God of War series including five titles from the series, developed by Santa Monica Studio while published and released by Sony Computer Entertainment on August 28, 2012 exclusively for Play Station 3.

The Saga consist of previous games which are God of War I ,II ,III, Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta.

The game offered players to experience God of War's epic saga with journey and adventures of Kratos seeking his vengeance. As the game included all previous releases, it was found more convenient and worthful purchase by the gamers. However, the Saga didn't introduced any DLCs and additional packages from previous games.

13) God of War: Ascension (2013)


Release date- March 12, 2013

God of War: Ascension serves as a prequel to the entire God of War series, exploring the origins of Kratos and his journey before the main events of the original God of War game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment while released on March 12, 2013.
The game showed a big change in graphics and combat system introducing new mechanics and abilities for players to master while showcasing the power of the PlayStation 3 hardware with stunning visuals and cinematic presentation.
DLCs

  • The Trials of Archimedes: This DLC pack introduced a challenging new gameplay mode called The Trials of Archimedes, which provided players with a series of difficult combat encounters and puzzles to overcome.
  • Bundles of Ascension: This DLC pack included various in-game items and bonuses, such as new armor sets, weapons, and multiplayer perks, to enhance the player's experience in both single-player and multiplayer modes.
Apart from these DLCs, God of War: Ascension featured a multiplayer mode that allowed players to engage in brutal online battles. Moreover, Several DLC packs added new multiplayer maps for players to compete on, offering fresh environments and challenges.

14) God of War: Collection - PS Vita (2014)


Release date- June 5, 2014

The God of War Collection for PlayStation Vita is a compilation of two classic God of War games developed by Santa Monica Studios while released by Sony Computer Entertainment on June 5, 2014 digitally for Vita console.

The game consist of God of War I and II offering Vita players to experience the initial games in their modern handheld.

The game offered portable gameplay, developed to run smoothly on the screen of Vita console and provided additional touch screen controls. The high definition graphics made it look more cooler and provided more quality than original releases. However, the game was released digitally in Vita store and doesn't have any physical copy .

15) God of War III Remastered (2015)


Release date- July 14, 2015

God of War III Remastered is an enhanced version of the original "God of War III" game, developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment while released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 console on July 14, 2015.


The enhancements made in the game are:-
  • Visual Upgrades: The game received significant visual enhancements for its release on the PlayStation 4. It runs at a higher resolution and frame rate compared to the original PlayStation 3 version, resulting in smoother gameplay and improved graphics.
  • 1080p Resolution: The game supports 1080p resolution, allowing players to experience the game in stunning detail on their HD televisions.
  • Improved Graphics: The character models, environments, and special effects have been updated and enhanced to take advantage of the PlayStation 4's hardware capabilities. The game features higher-quality textures, improved lighting, and better particle effects, resulting in a more visually impressive experience.
  • Photo Mode: The remastered version includes a Photo Mode feature, allowing players to pause the game at any time and capture screenshots of their favorite moments. They can adjust various camera settings, filters, and effects to create stunning images of Kratos' epic battles and the game's breathtaking environments.
  • Smooth Performance: The game runs at a consistent 60 frames per second, providing smoother and more responsive gameplay compared to the original PlayStation 3 version.

16) God of War: A call from the wilds (2018)


Release date- February 1, 2018

God of War: A Call of the Wild was a text-based game developed and released by PlayStation Europe on February 1, 2018 for Facebook Messenger as a promotional tie-in for the highly anticipated release of God of War(2018), the latest installment in the mainline God of War series.

The gameplay of God of War: A Call of the Wild was entirely text-based, with players interacting with the game through dialogue choices and narrative decisions.

The game featured a branching narrative that allowed players to make choices that affected the outcome of the story. Players could engage in conversations with Kratos and Atreus, the protagonists of the God of War (2018) , and influence their actions and decisions.
While God of War: A Call of the Wild provided an interactive experience for fans, it was relatively short and limited in scope compared to the mainline God of War titles. It was primarily designed as a promotional experience rather than a full-fledged game.

17) God of War (2018)


Release date- April 20, 2018

God of  War (2018) is a soft reboot of the whole series set in Norse mythology developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment with initial release on April 20, 2018 for modern consoles.
Unlike the previous games which were set in Ancient Greek world, God of War (2018) introduces players to the land of Norse mythology. Players follow the journey of
Kratos, the former Greek God of War, and his young son, Atreus, as they embark on a perilous quest to scatter the ashes of Kratos' deceased wife.

The game shocked players from worldwide with a new look given to the Kratos and a new story setup in different mythology. The game introduced new RPG elements such as exploration, Crafting and skill upgrades.

The game won numerous awards, including Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2018 and also introduced a new feature called God of War: New Game+, allowing players to start a new game with all of their previously acquired equipment, upgrades, and abilities intact.

17) God of War: Ragnarök (2022)


Release date- November 9, 2022

God of War: Ragnarök is further continuation of the series developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment while released exclusively for Play Station 4 and 5 on November 9, 2022.
Ragnarök is again set in the world of Nordic lands, taking place three years after the previous game. It follows the journey of Kratos and his teenage Son, Atreus who are facing the consequences of Ragnarök after killing the Norse God ,Baldur.


The game introduces powerful Norse Gods:- Thor ,Tyr and Odin and reveals the mystery of Loki being an Giant.

DLC

• God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla- It was released as a free update in addition to the game while launched on December 12, 2023. The content provided a new gameplay style with new weapons, armors and skills.


Player could now explore new location called Valhalla, heaven for the warriors who died in battle.
The game also featured new bosses and enemies of Norse mythology and a separate new chapter with Tyr, Norse god of war.
